power of play emergent conversation

an empowering & visionary day

we recently gathered a group of people who are all concerned about the future of education (and the decline in opportunity of nature-based play for the younger generations today) to participate in an emergent conversation. this was hosted in conjunction with our power of play workshop led by play worker and expert ben kingston-hughes of inspired children. in attendance was those delivering forest school provision (in both mainstream & alternative settings), elders from our industry (who are pioneering alternative solutions), campaigners and many more.

did you know when children engage in nature-based freeplay (unstructured, child-led play where they decide what to do, how to do it, and when to stop, without adult direction or imposed rules) they produce a range of biochemicals similar to those that are generated when we eat that are essential not only for wellbeing but also brain development? thank you to ben and to all those who participated in and contributed to the day.

feedback from participants:

“THE BEST DAY. I learned so much and even though I arrived frazzled I felt fresher when I left” - kirsti hadley, generation alphabet

“Thank you for organising such fabulous training. It was a lovely day and continues to influence my practice. Thank you.” - kirsty meekings, forest school leader
