about the workshop
at k.i.n, we’re keen to more deeply understand behaviour that challenges us as adults, educators and care givers, and develop the skills needed to deal with this in a positive way. this workshop will focus mainly on ways of reframing behaviour which in turn can affect a positive relationship when working with behaviour we find ‘challenging’ or unfamiliar. we will work with 'real life' scenarios in the outdoors where there will be a focus on working with nature to support us, alongside some tools and strategies to utilise in supporting individuals with behavioural challenges ‘in that moment’.
the course will cover;
what is behaviour – our challenges
'magic spot' – qualities the outdoors brings to 'affecting behaviour'
responding in the moment – the role of 'emotional intelligence', empathy and de-escalation
how the outdoors meets the needs of adults & children – linking to 'feelings' and body sensations
working with group behaviours in the outdoors
sensory preferences and regulation of body/brain
'reading' our children -observing our children for signs of avoidance, seeking, passions and the use of empathic language and communication
intervention strategies
behaviour scenarios
the ‘behaviour first aid kit' and 'support networks'
the ‘anxiety/crisis’ cycle and how to work with each part of this behavioural cycle
we see this as a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in and around east london to grow together.
a big pot of soup (vegan) and freshly baked bread from the wild goose bakery will be served for everyone to eat together for lunch. hot drinks will be made over the fire.
we work with practitioners from related nature based fields to host workshops.
we believe that being connected to nature is equally important for adults as it is children. the journey of deepening this connection and working with nature is endless and has countless wellbeing benefits on an individual and collective level for humankind as well as for the greater web of nature - the plant, animal kingdoms and beyond - that we are interconnected with.
